Chloe is a beagle still in her youth but she has undergone 2 operations in 1 year for removal of macadamia nuts; she had scrounged them off
the ground from under a neighbouring tree and they went on to cause intestinal obstruction- twice. These were readily visible on xray and abdominal ultrasound but required her to undergo surgery twice for these foreign body retrievals. Characteristically, the abdominal discomfit would make her crouch and adopt a posture as though praying to Allah.
Bobby is a Labrador who also required surgery twice in his first year as a puppy to remove large balls of string on both occasions. Then there was Missy, another Labrador, who stole a rubber beach ball off another dog in the park, compressed it in her mouth and swallowed it whole! It re-inflated in her stomach giving her bloat and on xray the ball seemed to take up her entire abdomen. It took a large hole to remove it!
Actually dogs are not alone in this as we have had the cat who obstructed after swallowing the kid's rubber stamp many years ago; and more recently Sampson, who decided to eat garden bark and required, firstly ultrasound to identify the cause of his vomiting, and then surgery to remove the intestinal obstruction.

BETTER NOW!!!!
And this is Cherry who made herself decidedly sick by swallowing a stone! Rather obvious on xray! Yes, surgery to recover this one as well!
